Shipping items these days can be incredibly stressful. This past winter, my mom sent a package down to me while I was staying for a week in Florida. It was a small Christmas tree and ornaments for me to set up for my Grandparents that live there and didn’t have one. The large box it was sent in was completely destroyed. It had been smashed up badly on the trip down. Luckily the tree and ornaments were in individual boxes inside the main box, and they weren’t injured. Had any of them been made out of glass it would have been a sad Christmas. When it comes to shipping more expensive items though, the risk is definitely not worth it. In these situations shipping cases can be purchased for extra protection.

Shipping cases are used to protect items from shock, moisture, vibration, dust, impact and other possible damaging factors. The cases can be made in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can even be custom made to form to the specific need of its contents. In most cases, they can be reused multiple times, remaining efficient and making them worth the investment. They can be created from wood, aluminum, steel or a variety of plastics. Each material provides different benefits to the item, all of these would serve much better than the cardboard boxes my family had decided to use.

Not only can the casing be customized to the product, but the inside can be as well. Heavy foam can be formed to mold perfectly around the item. Lighter foam, packing peanuts, paper, and other materials can also be used as insulation. Shelves and compartments are also often added to cases to allow a separation of parts, much like you could see in a tool box. Shipping cases are also typically equipped with handles and latches to make sure they are easy to transport and secured from being knocked open.
